DESCRIPTION:Roving Roots are an acoustic trio\, inspired by traditional Americana music and driven to go wherever the groove takes them\, whether that be a funky instrumental\, a pretty and hypnotic old-time tune\, or a heartfelt original sung over the warm rhythmic hum of the clawhammer banjo. \nThe band consists of Chalmers Croft on guitar\, Drew Egerton on mandolin\, and Julia Migner on fiddle and clawhammer banjo — though don’t be surprised if you see them swapping instruments on stage or pulling out an octave-mandolin or bouzouki. \nThe trio first played music together in the summer of 2025 after meeting and jamming separately at local jams and camps. Chalmers’ solid yet nuanced rhythmic foundation coupled with Drew’s playful\, thoughtful phrasing and the smooth tone of Julia’s fiddle fuse together into a warm and energizing musical conversation. \nYou’ll hear them playing a mix of traditional and progressive bluegrass\, Americana and swing tunes\, along with some of their own original songs — rooted in a desire to create music that brings them joy\, meandering through melodies while carefully listening to the story being told.

Fresh off a Japan tour alongside Numero Records labelmates Jejune and the Album Leaf\, Ethel Meserve is touring the southeast United States this summer. Catch them in Charlotte alongside local legends Late Bloomer (Self Aware Records) on a special tour stop at Divine Barrel Brewing. All ages\, all are welcome. \nAbout Ethel Meserve \nEthel Meserve were pioneers of the mid-1990s math rock and emo scenes. Renowned for their intricate guitar-driven soundscapes\, raw and emotional vocals\, and complex percussion\, they brought an unforgettable energy to their live performances. Named after a local shop owner in their hometown of State College\, PA\, the band’s songwriting served as a crucial link between math rock\, “first-wave” emo\, and the melodic\, vibrant energy of the late-90s midwest emo wave. Their consistent summer touring took them across the country\, including a legendary 1997 run with Braid and The Get Up Kids. Their final show took place in 1998 alongside At The Drive-In and Lazarus Plot at Chicago’s iconic Fireside Bowl. \nThe band debuted with a highly sought-after four-song cassette demo in 1995. In 1996\, they followed with the “Pierman”/“Paladin Taim” 7-inch (Tree Records) and the Tamsen/Onward Foster 7-inch (Caulfield Records) before working again with Tree for their 1997 full-length debut\, “The Milton Abandonment”. They also appeared on numerous compilation albums. Their sophomore release\, Spelling the Names\, was released by Tree in 2000. New York Magazine‘s Vulture listed their track “Waltz of Gibraltar” among the 100 most influential emo songs of all time\, further cementing the band’s legacy in the genre’s history. \nIn 2025 the band announced that they had reunited with Tree Records founder Ken Shipley as part of his Numero Group label\, which re-issued their demo as a 2×7-inch and included their song “Calba’s Last” as part of a bonus 7-inch in their Grammy-nominated Sequoia release. \nThe band reunited for live shows in 2026\, including a sold-out tour of Japan with Numero labelmates Jejune and the Album Leaf. The band hopes to play more shows and release new music in the future.

Then at 1pm\, we’re hosting FOUR awesome local bands. Not enough for you? Well\, good news – the dunk tank is BACK from last year\, and you can take your shot at dunking some of the DBB crew (and maybe a special guest or two). It’s all for a great cause\, too – as always\, our holiday charity cookouts are supporting our friends at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina @shmetrolina doing the good work in providing food services for 24 counties in the Carolinas. DESCRIPTION:It’s time once again for the Annual DBB Memorial Day Cookout! We’ll be firing up the grill at noon\, serving up burgers\, hot dogs & grilled cheese to raise money for Second Harvest Food Bank of the Metrolinas. Come out and donate a few bucks for a good cause and grab some traditional cookout snacks! There’s probably going to be potato salad\, too. Starts at noon\, and goes ’til we run out (or 5pm\, but c’mon\, y’all are gonna eat).
