Comfort in Darkness Wins Gold

We always pride ourselves on making the best beer we possibly can! It’s always an honor to send some of our favorite liquid to the North Carolina Brewers Guild each year for judging at the North Carolina Brewers Cup. Our state is littered with world-class breweries, and this is our state’s biggest beer competition. We love to put our beer up against some of the best brewers on the planet. The results for the 2023 competition are in, and we are thrilled to announce Comfort in Darkness won the gold medal in this year’s Wood & Barrel Aged Beer category!

What Gold Means

Winning a medal in any beer competition is hard enough, so we can’t tell you what it means to win a medal at the NC Brewers Cup! There are hundreds of submissions each year, so competition is fierce. The Wood & Barrel Aged Beer category is one of the biggest categories, so to say we have the best barrel aged stout in the state is kind of mind-blowing! It’s a style of beer that takes a lot of finesse and patience to brew. We want to congratulate all of our fellow brewers who competed and placed this year. Thank you for always pushing us to be the best versions of ourselves.

About Comfort in Darkness

If you need a little reminder about how tasty Comfort in Darkness is, here’s what we wrote about the beer at the time of its release. This Imperial Stout spent 18 quiet months in the comfortable darkness of freshly emptied Booker’s Bourbon barrels. This viscous, jet black beer is decadently complex with notes of roasted coffee, rich chocolate, oaky vanilla, and a warming bourbon heat. Drink fresh or allow this amazing 11.0% ABV beer to evolve. If you’re interested in trying Comfort in Darkness we still have a few cans available for purchase in the taproom, so come give it a try!
